As part of our Quality Management programme and our commitment to our shareholders we are committing ourselves to provide the maximum training of our drivers and rest of employees in the development of a safe environment during our operations.
Training for drivers and site workers is applied on a need basis, as well as upon hire and before any actual job involvement. The drivers are first trained by company supervisors about company policies and also about the implementation of legislation for our field. They are then trained through experienced trainees on road safety, the Highway Code.
We keep records of all training sessions for each driver, which are monitored through ISO 9001 (the internationally recognised standard for the quality management of businesses), and all drivers need to have the same level of training at all times. Currently 6 fully trained drivers will receive another training session on revised legislation and new equipment in mid-January 2010.
As indicators in defining the training, we will use the reporting of accidents and we have the ability and flexibility to upgrade or modify the demands of the training if and when an opportunity arises in line with the need.
We will use manuals for safe driving, safe handling of equipment, and risk assessment and our supervisory staff will monitor that these are well implemented. The allocation of equipment manuals is on a per-truck basis, each driver is instructed to keep record of all incidents within the trucks' log. At the same time drivers are instructed to report directly to their supervisor with emergency items.
All employees have their own risk assessment manual for personal safety, health and hygiene.
Road safety manuals are also allocated to each driver and are only obtained through the training process.
Calculation of risk is placed upon the management of the company, following evaluation of all incidents involving road safety or equipment usage (usually every 6 months). Through the evaluation an analysis and grading of the incidents is completed and the results are further analysed in categories. The high risk items are further analysed in order to define the best solution as well as possible training schedules to accomplish minimisation of the risks.
The involvement of the managerial team in this process is established and there is input from the General Manager, the Environmental Division, the Waste Department and the local supervisors in all decisions taken.
Managing transportation of waste including the use of skip and hook loaded containers, as well as the use of refuse trucks for the collection and management of commercial, industrial and household waste, both recyclable and not.
