What are you doing/aiming to do for road safety?

We, the European Driving Schools Association (EFA) with 27 member associations are actively involved in road safety. In order to maintain the improvement of safety on European roads we have decided to commit to the following actions from 2008 until 2011.
We shall improve the curricula in the European Associations of driving teachers:By sharing experiences.
Annual conferences in the different EU countries which the EFA will invite different national EFA member associations. We shall urge the participants to share experience in workshops and by distributing handouts about road safety innovations and improvements of driving tuition. We shall provide a platform for discussion and sharing experiences, talking about road safety and how to help during the driving education to highlight the problems and to develop the solutions.
We shall encourage even more focus on driving behaviour instead of on driving abilities since this is the main cause of accidents. Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, aggressive driving, adequate, careful and cautious driving behaviour will be among the subjects we will discuss with our members.

With periodical newsletters to all our members we shall continuously inform them about innovations; improvements etc. and support the implementation of this information in the countries. We shall encourage our members to establish and develop similar new programs in each country, which will optimise the initial education and the post test training for the learner drivers who are a very vulnerable group. We shall also assist the member associations in each country in identifying the target areas for training based on accident statistics from their country (alcohol, high speed driving, insecure driving attitude, disregard of traffic instructions etc.)
We shall encourage our members to develop suitable training modules to meet these challenges and that the training programs will have particular emphasis on learner drivers and post-test drivers.
