On 18th September, Bulgarian State Agency Road Safety presented its annual awards, which recognize the achievements of regional and municipal administrations in increasing road safety in the country. The awards aim to promote good practices, sustainable policies and real results in protecting human life and health on the roads.
Award categories are:
- "Active regional road safety policy" which distinguishes sustainable models of cooperation and effective actions to significantly reduce road traffic injuries. In the second quarter of 2025, the lowest levels of injuries and deaths in road accidents in the last decade were reported in the district.
- "Active municipal road safety policy" recognizes consistent and responsible policies on speed limits and traffic organization, sustainable capital investments and maintenance of the road infrastructure.
- "Pedestrians Protection" prizes responsible policies towards the most vulnerable road users and long-term concepts for sustainable urban mobility with focus on pedestrian paths, new markings, replacement of signs, lighting and accessibility.
- The “Social Responsibility” category outlines measures to protect employees from road accidents – both as drivers, pedestrians and passengers. Emphasis is on life long learning, creating a culture of awareness and integrating safety into the work environment.
- “Survey and documentation of the road and street network” – awarded the municipalities with the greatest progress in road infrastructure management through data collection and analysis.
The distinguished institutions do not simply implement policies, but with perseverance and commitment turn the care for life on the road into a real mission. More and more administrations in the country are working with a vision for long-term development and placing safety at the heart of sustainable mobility.
