For the third time our school had organized regional preliminaries to the XXXIX Polish Nationwide Road Safety Tournament . We cooperated with WORD (Voivodeship Training Centre For Drivers) in Słupsk and the Police Traffic Department. There were two stages in which students had to present their knowledge and road safety abilities. The first stage was at our school gym where participants from ten Primary Schools and five Junior High Schools wrote a theoretical test on both the general knowledge about road safety and crossroad driving rules. In contrast, a second stage was a practical one. At a school pitch, children had to navigate an obstacle course including elements such as: driving under a hanging gate, slalom, transporting a subject, a plank corridor, a balance beam and stopping. The goal of the tournament is to raise cultural awareness of road safety by popularising traffic regulations and safety rules among our children and adolescents; forming partnership behaviours within road users; promoting a bike as fantastic and cheap mean of transport as well as a sport and recreation.
