The first Project EDWARD (European Day Without a Road Death), which took place in 31 countries on Wednesday 21 September 2016 proved to be a successful awareness-raiser. More than 103,000 organisations and individuals signed a road safety pledge on the website of the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) and more than 80 road safety actions were organised across Europe, including information and awareness-raising activities in schools and companies, workshops, conferences and competitions. In addition, the #ProjectEDWARD and #seatbeltselfie social media campaign reached more than 19 million people.
The campaign, launched by TISPOL, was widely supported by the European Commission as part of the European Mobility Week.
In 2017, for the second year in a row, project EDWARD – the European Day without a Road Death will take place on 21 September during the European Mobility Week.In the days leading up to EDWARD, all road users are encouraged to think about the risks they face, the risks they may pose to others and how they can go about reducing those risks. EDWARD can make a significant contribution towards further reducing road deaths and serious road traffic injuries.
Whether you represent a national government, a private organisation, a public agency, a charity, a school, college or university, or whether you simply care as an individual, you can join the initiative by organising Road Safety Days across Europe and registering them on roadsafetydays.eu. Furthermore, you can make a commitment by signing a pledge on projectedward.eu, sending a video message and being part of the social media campaign (#ProjectEDWARD).
